History of Amana Bank Tanzania

Amana Bank is the first Islamic Bank in Tanzania. The idea to establish an Islamic Bank in Tanzania was formed in 2009 by a group of prominent Tanzanian businessmen and foreign investors.

Amana Bank started operations in November 2011 after it was granted a provisional license by Tanzania’s central bank in February 2011.

Amana Bank became incorporated with an authorized share capital of Tanzanian shilling (TZS) 100 billion (approx $43 million) and paid-up capital of TZS 21.5 billion (approx $9 million).

This is an interest-free savings account that is available in local and foreign currency (TZS, USD, EUR, GBP, and AED).

Kilimanjaro diaspora account

This is a bank account for Tanzanians living outside the country. The account can be used to make deposits, withdrawals and transfers. It is available in local and foreign currency (TZS, USD, EUR, GBP, AED).

A minimum amount of  TZS 50,000 or USD, EUR, GBP 50,  or AED 250 is required to open the account.

Required documents
  • A filled and signed diaspora account opening form
  • Proof of residence ( pay slip, utility bills, etc.)
  • Tanzanian passport and a residence or work permit
  • Endorsed documentation from an Amana Bank account holder or the Tanzanian embassy

How to open a Kilimanjaro diaspora account
  • Fill out and sign the account opening form

Boda Boda account

This is a special savings account for Bajaj and bodaboda riders/owners to save for their personal and business needs. The account is available in only one currency (TZS).

A minimum amount of TZS 10,000 ($4.29) is required to open the account.

  • One passport photograph.
  • A copy of the applicant's national identity card/passport / voter card / new driver's license
  • An introduction letter from a local government or any utility bill with the applicant’s name.
  • A residence or work permit for non-residents

Annisaa account

This is a savings account designed for women. It is available in different currencies (TZS and USD ,EUR ,GBP, and AED).

A minimum amount of TZS 20,000 or USD, EUR, GBP 100, AED 150 is required to open the account.

Requirements
  • The applicant must be a woman
  • One passport photograph.
  • A copy of the applicant's national identity card/passport /voter card /new driver's license
  • An introduction letter from a local government or any utility bill with the applicant’s name.

  • Your employer must have an MOU with Amana Bank
  • The loan has a maximum repayment period of 36 months for individuals and 60 months for employees

  • Your company must have a minimum of 30 employees to qualify

  • The loan has a maximum repayment period of 3 years

Short-term working capital financing

This is a short-term loan product for Amana Bank customers with a current account. Customers can use the loan to finance their business working capital needs.

Features and requirements
  • The loan has a maximum repayment period of 30 days
  • The loan is based on Qard Hasan (benevolent loan) contract
  • The loan is available 1-3 times in a year

  • The pensioner must receive a monthly pension payment with an Amana Bank account

  • An introduction letter from pension funds or the Ministry of Finance (Treasury office)

Elimu financing

This is a Shariah-compliant loan product for students at any stage of their education. Elimu financing is available for students in schools that have a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amana Bank.

Features and requirements
  • Students in Tanzania and overseas academic institutions are eligible for the loan
  • The loan has a maximum repayment period of 12 months
  • The loan has a flexible collateral arrangement
  • The loan amount depends on the applicant’s ability to repay the loan
